Within the framework and commitment to preserve traditional heritage, norms and culture of Qatar, the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara is preparing to launch the 8th edition of the Halal (Livestock) festival from February 2 until February 10.
This year’s edition consists of an array of different activities all related to the main role of the festival and teach people more about the livestock sector in the country.
“The festival forms a flagship platform for livestock breeders to learn about the best practices in this profession and exchange expertise”, Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara said.
The festival, one of the largest in Qatar and the region specialised in the field of livestock heritage aims to reflect the authentic atmosphere of the life of the ancestors in the GCC and to educate the young generations on this significant part of their life. The festival also features a livestock auction on the best breeds of goats and sheep which also brings in more verities for breeders to improve their production.
As part of its commitment to raising awareness among the youth on Halal, Katara has invited schools to visit the festival every morning. More than 30 stalls offering dairy, other livestock products and traditional food items will be there to enhance the traditional ambience of the festival.
The festival also consists of traditional handicrafts performed by professionals who explain to visitors how these handicrafts were important in the old days in a bid to revive this abandoned type of art.
Camel and horse rides and a playground are among the other features at the festival.
